A Little bit about the yellowstone area
The Madison River is a different river from anything else you will come across. Its structure is very subtly different for about 50 miles. It is full of rocks and riffles with very few pools. Learning to fish and dissect this river will lead you to many wonderful days of fishing on your own. This is also where we conduct most of our floating trips.
The Firehole River is one of Yellowstone Parks most famous rivers. It flows through beautiful geyser basins and by many bison on its route to forming the Madison when it meets the Gibbon. The Firehole fishes best from its opener on Memorial Day Weekend until late June, and then again from September until the end of October.
Northeast Corner of Yellowstone is home to the Lamar River, Slough Creek, and Soda Butte Creek. There are opportunities to fish the front country stretches and back country reaches of these streams. Usually this area of Yellowstone doesn’t start fishing well until the water clears sometime in late July. Terrestrial fishing for Yellowstone Cutthroats can be very fun. We also conduct horse pack trips on special request on the Lamar and Sough Creek during the month of August. A backcountry trip is sure to be an unforgettable experience.
The Gallatin River is a high mountain stream that flows cold. Once it warms up however, it can have some great fishing for many different species of fish. With its pockets, pools, and riffles there are plenty of areas for fish to live. This is a great stream to fish using the dry and dropper technique.
We also fish many other of the areas river depending on conditions and time of year. We are luck here to always have something that is fishing well. Let us know your ideas and we will design a trip that meets you needs.
